THE ROUTE: Walking from the Washington Monument Grounds to Meadowbrook Park and back again.
The walk route to and from the Washington Monument Grounds and Wellness Village will consist mostly of sidewalks and city streets. The 2-day route will begin at the base of the iconic Washington Monument and will give you a tour of our Nation’s Capitol’s most exciting sites, like the Jefferson Memorial and the brand new Martin Luther King, Jr. Memorial! Saturday will end with a more quiet and scenic stroll through Bethesda into the park trails that will lead to the Wellness Village in Meadowbrook Park.
Sunday's route will begin in Meadowbrook Park and will include different sites and neighborhoods from Saturday, so don't forget to bring your cameras!
The route itself will be clearly marked with directional signage and other markings. This is how you will navigate the route during the event — by following the Avon Walk arrow signs.
There is also a route support team called "the Sweep Team," which is available to help you while you are on the road between Quick Stops and Rest Stops. Overall, the route will take you through some of Washington, DC’s most beautiful neighborhoods, and is designed to be safe, fun, and interesting!

Family/friends staying for the Ceremony can park along the street, but will not be able to leave cars overnight (please leave ample time for parking as this is a popular destination).
As overnight parking is prohibited around the Washington Monument, we encourage all participants to park at garages located close to the JW Marriott. Locations and rates will be announced soon. Please continue to check back for the most up to date information. Participants can take the complimentary shuttles from the JW Marriott to Opening Ceremony.
Complimentary shuttles to the Washington Monument Grounds will run from the JW Marriott, between 4-6 a.m. Saturday morning. Buses returning to the JW Marriott on Sunday will depart immediately after the conclusion of the Closing Ceremony.

Located less than a mile from the Washington, DC line, Meadowbrook Park is a beautiful park surrounded by nature and full of local flavor! We are thrilled to have this park as our Wellness Village for the fourth year in a row!
Limited visitor parking will be available on Beach Drive at the intersection of East-West Highway and there will be a Traffic and Security Crew Team to direct friends and family. Visitors are encouraged to utilize public transportation conveniently located in the area. The closest Metro Stops are Bethesda and Silver Spring on the Red Line. Several bus lines run between these two stops and Meadowbrook Lane.

For walkers who require overnight accommodations on Friday, May 4, or Saturday, May 5, we have secured a roomblock with special Avon Walk participant rates:
Friday/Saturday Rate: $199 + tax per night for a single or double.
You must indicate that you are part of the Avon Walk for Breast Cancer in order to secure that rate. This is the most convenient hotel to stay at, since it is the Event Eve host hotel.
