THE ROUTE
Walking from Pier 84 to Randall’s Island and Back Again
The walk route to and from Hudson River Park's Pier 84 and Wellness Village will consist mostly of sidewalks and city streets. There are also occasions where the route will take you through some of New York’s beloved parks and and popular shared use recreational paths.
As the sun rises on the Saturday of your walk weekend, the beauty of the Hudson River and the city skyline will serve as the incredible backdrop during our Opening Ceremony at Pier 84.
Throughout your walk weekend, you will experience all the best that New York has to offer. The route will bring you into some of Manhattan’s most well-known neighborhoods including Chelsea, Greenwich Village, and Soho. You will journey over the majestic Brooklyn Bridge and make your way into the DUMBO area of Brooklyn, known for its many galleries and cobble streets, before heading back into Manhattan. After you’ve had a taste of “all the best” in New York on Saturday, you’ll reach our Wellness Village –at the one of kind Randall’s Island!
Sunday’s route will wind you back through the streets of New York and past more of the iconic sights and sounds of this great city, so be sure to bring your camera! You’ll complete your day’s mileage and be right back at Pier 84 for our Closing Ceremony.
The route itself will be clearly marked with directional signage and other markings. This is how you will navigate the route during the event — by following the Avon Walk arrow signs.
There is also a route support team called "the Sweep Team," which is available to help you while you are on the road between Quick Stops and Rest Stops. Overall, the route will take you through some of New York City's most beautiful neighborhoods, and is designed to be safe, fun, and interesting!

Overlooking the Hudson River and right next to Intrepid, Pier 84 is a wonderful location to start and end your walk weekend.
There is parking available in near by commercial parking lots. Please check back for the most up to date parking information.
Complimentary shuttles to Pier 84 will run from the Hilton New York, between 4:00AM – 5:30AM Saturday morning. On Sunday buses returning to the Hilton New York and public transit hubs will begin at 12:00 Noon.

We are pleased to announce that Randall’s Island will host our Wellness Village again this year. After completing your first day of walking through some of New York’s most well-known and picturesque neighborhoods, you’ll spend the night at your home-away-from-home, also known as our Wellness Village. Randall’s Island is over 200 acres of urban oasis situated next to Manhattan in the East River. It’s the perfect place to spread out and set up camp for the night.
There is very limited free parking available for visitors on a first come, first served basis.

For walkers who require overnight accommodations on Friday, Oct. 18, or Saturday, Oct. 19, 2013, we have secured a room block with special Avon Walk participant rates: Friday/Saturday Rate: $359 + tax per night for a single or double. You must indicate that you are part of the Avon Walk for Breast Cancer to secure that rate. This is the most convenient hotel to stay at, since it is the Event Eve host hotel. Note: Additional room guests cost $30 per person with a limit of 4 people total.

Reservations must be made by Wednesday, September 18, 2013 to guarantee the special rate.
