THE ROUTE:
Walking from Pier 84 to Randall’s Island and Back Again
The walk route from Pier 84 to and from the Wellness Village will consist mostly of sidewalks and city streets. There may be occasions where the route will take you through a city park. The route will not include trail hiking.
The Avon Walk New York will provide an opportunity like no other. Known as a walking city by many you’re sure to see NYC like you never have before. Your day will begin at Hudson River Park’s Pier 84, next two New York landmarks, the Circle Line and the USS Intrepid. We’ll spend Saturday walking along the river, through the Upper West Side, Greenwich Village, and SoHo. Then we will head over the Brooklyn Bridge and stop by DUMBO before heading back into Manhattan over the Manhattan Bridge. The rest of the day will take us through Chinatown, the Lower East Side and into the Upper East Side before heading over the last bridge of the day and into our Wellness Village and overnight campsite.
Randall’s Island Park, home to Icahn Stadium and a world class tennis center, will be our Wellness Village for the weekend. Sunday’s route will bring us back to the Upper West Side and past Central Park. We will head south and through Midtown passing Rockefeller Center and Bryant Park before making our way back to the Hudson River and great views before you finish strong back at Pier 84.
On October 16-17, 2010, the Avon Walk route will take you over, across, and through some of New York’s best neighborhoods and iconic sites. Our highlights include:

For walkers who require overnight accommodations on Friday, October 15 or Saturday, October 16 we have secured a room block with special Avon Walk participant rates within the Event Eve hotel:
Friday/Saturday Rate: $329 + tax per night for a double room.
You must indicate that you are part of the Avon Walk for Breast Cancer in order to secure that rate.

**IMPORTANT HOTEL NOTE: Our overflow room block at the Sheraton Manhattan at Times Square has been moved to the host hotel – the Sheraton Hotel and Towers. If you had made a reservation at the Sheraton Manhattan, your room will now be located in the Sheraton Hotel and Towers.
NEW THIS YEAR — NUTRITION & BREAST CANCER
Genentech BioOncology is happy to announce a free educational program during Event Eve for all walkers, patients and caregivers. Join us to learn more about nutrition, HER2-positive breast cancer and HER2-negative metastatic breast cancer; meet other walkers, patients and caregivers; and enjoy light refreshments and hors d’oeuvres. Attendees are also invited to “walk” the pink carpet to get a photo taken of you or your group. The program will take place on Friday, October 15 at 5:30 p.m. at the Event Eve hotel, the Sheraton Hotel and Towers, in conference room D located in the lower lobby. To RSVP call 1-866-577-0371. On-site registration will also be available.

Public Transportation to Pier 84:
MTA Bus M42 to Circle Line Stop, Pier 84 is immediately next to the Circle Line stop. The fare is $2. Click here for the M42 bus schedule.
Complimentary shuttles to Pier 84 will run from the Sheraton Hotel and Towers, between 4:00AM – 5:30AM Saturday morning. Buses returning to the Sheraton Hotel and Towers on Sunday will begin departing at 12:00 Noon. There will also be shuttles available to the nearest public transportation, starting at 12:00 Noon.

We are excited to return to Randall’s Island again this year. Randall’s Island is over 200 acres of urban oasis situated next to Manhattan in the East River.
There is extremely limited free parking available for visitors on a first come, first served basis.
