JOIN THE CREW

ADVANCE TEAMS:
These teams move ahead of the Walk on Friday, setting up the elements necessary for the next day's activities. Advance Crew members work all day on Friday, Saturday, and Sunday of the Event.

Route Marking Team:
This team works to mark the physical route so that Walkers know where to go.

• Marks the next day's Route with signage (attention to detail is critical since the Walkers will rely upon Route Marking to find their way along each day's route!)
• Circulates along the route each day as a “fix-it” team and addresses problem areas where signage might be insufficient or need replacement
• Follows behind the last Walker to pick up all Route Marking signage, organizing it so that it can be redistributed to continue marking the following day's route
• Should be able to lift 30 lbs.

Set Up Team:

• Works closely with Staff members to set up Wellness Village on Friday
• Sets up sleeping tent "grid," dining area and service tents, and completes a variety of other tasks to help ensure that the Wellness Village is properly prepared for participants to arrive
• Should be able to lift 50+ lbs.

ROUTE TEAMS:
These teams are on the route, keeping Walkers safe and well-supported.

Motorcycle Safety Team:

• Works with Road Dispatch Staff and local law enforcement to guarantee safe passage for Walkers during each day's route
• Assists at difficult intersections and other locations as requested
• Team members must provide own motorcycle and helmet and have valid motorcycle license and insurance

Quick Stop Teams:

• Manages set-up, water distribution and traffic control at assigned location
• These teams are often the first to leave in the morning (between 3:45am and 4:45am!) and the last to return to Wellness Village at night
• Should be able to lift 40+ lbs.

Rest Stop Teams:

• Manages set-up, food distribution and traffic control at assigned location
• These teams are the first to leave in the morning (between 3:45am and 4:45am!) and often the last to return to Wellness Village at night
• There is also a separate Lunch Stop where Walkers will be served lunch each day
• Should be able to lift 40+ lbs.

Route Clean-Up Team:

• Picks up bagged trash and recyclables from each Rest Stop and Quick Stop on the route (dumpsters are provided at Wellness Village and the Download Lot, so all trash must be transported to these locations each day)
• Should be able to lift 60+ lbs. and be able to drive a 15' truck

Route Water & Ice Team:

• Assists in the distribution and replenishment of water and ice needed for each of the Quick Stops and Rest Stops on the route
• Assists with pick-up of leftover water at the close of each Stop, as needed
• Works closely with Road Dispatch Staff to be certain that all Stops have sufficient hydration supplies each day
• Should be able to lift 60+ lbs. and able to drive a 15' truck.

Sweep Team:

• Circulates throughout the route in 12-person passenger vans or minivans
• Provides transportation to Rest Stops for Walkers who may not be able to complete the day's route
• This team leaves early in the morning and arrives late into Wellness Village after all Walkers have completed the route
• Should be able to lift 30 lbs. and be comfortable driving a passenger van in city traffic

WELLNESS VILLAGE TEAMS:
These teams keep the Wellness Village (Avon Walk overnight campsite) running smoothly

Avon Walk Store Team:

• Supports the Avon Walk Shop on Saturday and Sunday at Wellness Village and at Closing Ceremony on Sunday (until just before start of Ceremony).
• Loads and unloads merchandise
• Sets up and breaks down display materials and equipment
• Restocks merchandise
• Interacts with participants and the public
• Should be able to lift 50 lbs.

Food Service Team:

• Works closely with the catering vendor, serving breakfast and dinner to event participants
• No cooking or food prep required
• Should be able to lift 20 lbs.

Gear & Tent Team:

• Manages the collection and distribution of all participant gear and tents throughout the Walk
• Loads all gear into trucks Saturday morning
• Unloads gear in the assigned area of Wellness Village
• Loads gear into trucks Sunday morning
• Unloads gear in assigned area at Closing Ceremony
• Assists participants in locating their gear and setting up their sleeping tents
• Approximately half of the Gear & Tent team members must be able to drive a 24' truck
• Should be able to lift 60+ lbs.

Hospitality Team:

• Counts all Walkers as they arrive in Wellness Village on Saturday
• Works closely with Dispatch, reporting total numbers in each day
• Serve as "cheerleaders," welcoming Walkers in from the route
• Provides direction to Wellness Village services

Information Services Team:
Information Services is the place participants go for any details they might need regarding Wellness Village layout, Sunday route questions, shuttle information, etc.

• Manages lost and found on Saturday
• Organizes the Crew Lunch assembly and/or distribution on both Saturday and Sunday morning
• Manages the Spaaahh Zone area at the Wellness Village
• Should be able to lift 20 lbs.

Pack-Up Team:

• Manages the clean-up of the Opening Ceremony as well as the Wellness Village each day including the monitoring of trash and recycling throughout Wellness Village
• Ensures that all elements of Wellness Village are completely cleaned up each morning, and that the site is as clean as or cleaner than when the Walk arrived on site

Security & Traffic Team:

• Manages vehicular and pedestrian traffic into and out of Opening Ceremony and Wellness Village
• Handles security, focusing on the perimeter areas of Wellness Village
• Checks in all vehicles, allowing only those that are permitted to be on-site with the Walk
• Secures the sleeping and service tent areas at night
• Works closely with overnight Dispatch Staff and any hired or on-site security that might be available
• Checks all visitors in and out of Wellness Village
• Enforces parking plans established by the local Logistics and Crew & Volunteer Coordinators
• Should be able to lift 10–25 lbs.

Wellness Village Signage, Water & Ice Team:

• Manages placement of all signage in accordance with site map and instructions provided by staff Signage Coordinator
• Oversees signage in the Wellness Village throughout camp hours, ensuring that signage is where it should be, and provides proper directional instruction
• Works with Dispatch Staff and Crew Team Leaders to ensure that all areas in the Wellness Village have sufficient quantities of water and ice
• Should be able to lift 50+ lbs.

OPERATIONS TEAMS
These are small teams of between one and six people, generally assigned to work in roles assisting Staff.

Bus Liaison: A small team of people, each assigned to ride one of the buses along the route

• These buses transport Walkers from Rest Stops to Rest Stops further along the route and to Wellness Village once Walkers have determined that they cannot complete the day's route
• Often, this team provides necessary moral support for Walkers who might be disheartened by their inability to complete the route

Caboose Assistant:

• Rides bicycle along route, following last Walker(s) each day and offering assistance where needed
• Works in conjunction with Caboose Staff Member, who is also on bike
• Required to bring own bicycle and helmet

Incident Response Team:

• Assists staff Incident Response team in managing various situations, including medical situations, bad news from home, minor counseling
• Team members should have Social Service, Medical and/or counseling background
• Ideally, team members will have ASW, CSW, MSW or similar degree or certification

Medical Taxi Team:

• Works primarily with the Incident Response and Medical teams, providing non-emergency transportation to and from area hospitals
• May be asked to transport participant gear to hospital in cases where participant might need to leave event
• Occasionally might be called upon by Dispatch to run other necessary errands
• Should have personal vehicle (to be used as Taxi) and valid driver’s license and insurance
• Should be able to lift 20 lbs.

Rest Stop Closure Assistant:

• Drive Rest Stop Closure staff along route to assigned closure locations
• Work with Rest Stop Crew teams to close Rest Stops according to schedule
• Should have personal vehicle (to be used as Rest Stop Closure vehicle) and valid driver’s license and insurance
• Should be able to lift 30 lbs.

SPECIALTY TEAMS
In addition to the duties listed below, these teams are responsible for setting up and breaking down the supplies and cots within the Medical and Specialty services tents at Wellness Village.

Athletic Trainer:

• Provides athletic trainer services as needed during the Walk
• Works with Route Medical Team and/or Physical Therapy Team
• Must provide license/certification and proof of insurance

Chiropractic Team:

• Provides chiropractic services as needed to participants during the Walk
• Must provide license and proof of insurance
• Students will be permitted only under approval of Chiropractic Team Leader and Medical Team Sponsor (where applicable) and under the supervision of an instructor
• Chiropractors required to supply own treatment table

Massage Team:

• Provides essential massage services to participants during the Walk
• Ideally, massage therapists will be experienced in sports massage
• Massage therapists required to supply own massage table
• Must provide license/certification and proof of insurance

Physical Therapy Team:

• Made up of licensed or certified physical therapists and/or athletic trainers
• Provides physical therapy services to participants during the Walk
• The bulk of physical therapy care will be muscle soreness and calf pain
• Must provide license or certification and proof of insurance

Podiatry Team:

• Provides podiatric services as needed to participants during the Walk
• While the bulk of podiatric care needed will be blister-related, all members of the Podiatry Team must provide proof of DPM license and insurance

Route Medical Team:

• Made up of a variety of medical professionals, including RNs, MDs, EMTs and paramedics
• Provides First Aid Medical support at each of the Rest Stops, Lunch and possibly along the route
• Will manage emergency situations that arise until local emergency medical services arrive on the scene
• Must provide license/certification and proof of insurance

Wellness Village Medical Team:

• Made up of a variety of medical professionals
• Provides all first aid medical services to participants in Wellness Village
• Will provide emergency service where necessary until local EMS/paramedics arrive on scene
• Medical tent is staffed 24 hours each day
• Must provide license/certification and proof of insurance
