GENERAL SUMMARY: The Outreach & Recruitment Intern will have an opportunity to work directly with Avon Walk for Breast Cancer staff on various aspects of recruiting participants, volunteers, and sponsors. Each intern will learn the participant recruitment process and assist with projects to increase fundraising, awareness, volunteer involvement and participant registrations. Currently we are seeking qualified candidates for Fall volunteer internship positions for our 2011 Event in Houston.
The Avon Walks are produced by the Avon Foundation, an accredited 501(c)(3) public charity, which also oversees management and distribution of the funds raised. 100% of the net proceeds from the Avon Walks are returned to the breast cancer cause nationwide to support breast cancer awareness, screening and diagnosis, treatment, support services and scientific research. ESSENTIAL INTERN FUNCTIONS: 1. Work with operation and logistic teams on community outreach efforts 2. Assist Avon Walk staff with large scale recruitment, informational meetings, and special events 3. Offer impeccable customer service to all event participants and prospective participants 4. Perform other related duties as assigned by management 5. Moderate to heavy clerical work
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES: 1. Excellent verbal and written communication skills, including strong organizational and interpersonal skills 2. Demonstrated project management skills, including ability to manage and prioritize projects with multiple and often competing deadlines, and ability to work under pressure 3. Proven ability to deliver high-quality customer service 4. Ability to work independently, under supervision, and in a team-based and goal-oriented environment 5. Skilled with PC (specifically Word and Excel) and Microsoft Office 6. Ability to maintain confidentiality 7. Ability to communicate with employees and other agency contacts in a courteous and professional manner. This includes client interactions with the Avon Foundation and its affiliates.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE: Upper-class Undergraduates and Graduate Students preferred. Majors in Business, Public Relations, Marketing, Communications, Public Health, Philanthropic Studies, are beneficial but not required.
